Towards Sustainable, Inclusive, Responsible Mineral Resources Governance Post-Covid

15 July 2021

At this event, held on the margins of the 2021 High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, ICMM CEO Rohitesh Dhawan joined panellists to discuss the findings of a series of consultations undertaken by UNEP.

The UNEA-4/19 Resolution on Mineral Resource Governance, adopted in 2019, recognises the important contribution of metal and mineral resources to achieving the UN SDGs, the dependence of low-carbon clean technologies on these resources, and the critical role that governance plays in ensuring positive outcomes from mineral development.

At this event, high-level panellists and participants discussed the findings of a series of consultations undertaken by the UNEP to implement the Resolution in the context of a green and inclusive recovery. The event also explores what will be required and where efforts should concentrate to promote the transition towards more sustainable and responsible mineral resources governance.
