Tábatha Chávez Matus

Senior Programme Officer – Tailings

Tabatha Chavez Matus joined ICMM in 2022 as Tailings lead. In addition to leading the Tailings Management and Tailings Innovation team Tabatha will also be supporting Nature and Climate projects.

Tabatha joined ICMM from BHP, were she led the mineral processing project initiation group of Escondida mine – the world’s largest copper mining project. In her role she led projects related to comminution, flotation, tailings and water innovation. Tabatha also has a background in research and development by working in flotation technology and geometallurgy roles in Chile and Finland, having the opportunity to work with assets across multiple countries in commodities such as copper, gold, and nickel.

Tabatha has a BSc in Chemical Engineering from Federico Santa Maria Technical University Chile and MSc in Sustainable Mining and Mineral Resources from the University of Oulu Finland.
