ICMM welcomes two new association members

11 October 2023

London, UK – ICMM welcomes the Association for Mines, Mineral and Metal Producers in Sweden (Svemin) and the Republican Association of Mining and Metallurgical Enterprises (AMME) as new association members.

Svemin is a member-based, professional mining association which represents the mining and associated industries of Sweden. It represents 61 members across mining, exploration and technology and has a broad remit of work which is closely in line with the focus areas of ICMM. This includes action on biodiversity, climate, skills, health and safety, and policy.

Established in 2005, AMME is the largest mining industry association of Kazakhstan. It has 96 corporate members across ferrous and nonferrous metallurgy, uranium and coal, and has a broad remit of work including policy, sustainable mining practices, and the commercial interests of its membership.

I am really pleased to welcome both Svemin and AMME as our newest association members. Both organisations share ICMM's vision of a safe, just and sustainable world enabled by responsibly produced metals and minerals, and I am really looking forward to their contributions and to learning from them. Both Sweden and Kazakhstan are important mining jurisdictions, and the insights and experiences they will be able to provide will be invaluable for the wider industry.

We are happy to join ICMM, and by becoming a member we see an opportunity to create mutual value for both Svemin and ICMM through the exchanging of views and knowledge. The Swedish mining industry is a global front runner when it comes to sustainability challenges and within these two areas in particular, we can contribute to the global discussion.

We are very proud to become part of ICMM which is the world’s most respected and well known organisation in mining and metals industry. We see a huge potential in cooperation between ICMM and AMME in fields of sustainable development, environmental resilience and social performance of our industry.
