Corporate Water Reporting — Moving the Mining Industry Forward

Leadership Conversation
Organised by ICMM
25 August 2021, 14:00 – 15:00 GMT
Online

ICMM's Aidan Davy is joined by industry, investor and NGO stakeholders for a conversation on how strong and transparent water reporting can drive progress on water management in the mining and metals industry.

Societies around the world are facing significant water challenges, including increasing pressure on water resources from rapidly growing and competing demands, and inadequate access to water in certain countries. Mining companies also depend on water for the extraction and processing of minerals and metals, which can impact water resources shared with local communities, natural systems, and other industries such as agriculture.

Transparent water reporting is an important aspect of good governance by the industry, providing investors, government, local communities and civil society with a greater line of sight over mining companies' water management practices. The external reporting landscape is evolving, and in light of this, ICMM has updated its water reporting guidance for the mining and metals industry to improve the quality and consistency of external reporting that will enhance stakeholders’ understanding of, and ability to use, corporate water reports and associated data. The updated guidance is also better aligned with key reporting platforms such as the new GRI Standard 303: Water and Effluents.

Join us on 25 August 2021 at 2pm BST for the virtual launch of ICMM’s updated Water Reporting: Good Practice Guide. During this 60 min webinar, ICMM will moderate a conversation between ICMM members involved in the development of the guidance and investor and NGO stakeholders on what strong and transparent water reporting looks like in practice, and how it can mutually benefit companies and their stakeholders. The moderated discussion will be followed by an audience Q&A.
