ICMM shares Peru findings in London

On 21 July Canning House hosted an event on natural resources and development in Peru.

The event showcased the outcomes of a recent workshop held in Lima, Peru jointly hosted by Sociedad Nacional de Minería, Petróleo y Energía (SNMPE) and ICMM, which demonstrated how industry is encouraging stakeholders to work together to ensure the country gets the full benefit from mineral resource investment.

Sir Mark Moody-Stuart of Anglo American chaired the event, which included a panel comprising ICMM’s Chief Operating Officer John Groom, Vale Director of International Affairs Renato Amorim and Peruvian Ambassador H.E. Ricardo Luna.

There were 70 attendees, comprising representatives from mining companies, the Peruvian government, civil society, academia, business and media. Comments and questions from the floor sparked lively debate around the responsibilities of government, companies and civil society in working towards development and poverty reduction.
