Safety and Health Conference
In November 2006, ICMM held its inaugural Safety and Health Conference in Johannesburg. The event was attended by more than 300 delegates, including leaders and managers working in the mining and metals industry.
What is ICMM doing?
The conference program included experiential learning seminars covering all aspects of safety and health, with a particular emphasis on behavioural safety and safety systems. Key topics included:
- Building a strong safety culture
- How to engage the workforce
- Creating a process-disciplined organization
- Identifying and managing health hazards
- Connecting people to procedures and systems
Many of the leading industry speakers made their presentations publicly available.
What will our work achieve?
By sharing expertise and experiences, our members can build on the existing excellent levels of safety and health to make the mining and metals industry even safer.
The ICMM event is testament to the importance of health and safety issues, and to the willingness of our membership to share good practice for the benefit of all. The unique conference format meant that it was an action-packed event that should result in teams within companies being inspired to change how safety and health are managed in the industry.
ICMM is tentatively planning a second conference for 2012. Further details about this new event will be published in due course on the ICMM website.
PROJECT DETAILS
ICMM organized an international conference on safety and health that was widely attended; a measure of the importance of the issue, and also of the willingness of our membership to share good practice.
