Rio Tinto publishes guide on cultural heritage management
In acknowledging the fundamental role that culture and heritage play in its engagement with local communities, Rio Tinto has launched a new guide: Why Cultural Heritage Matters - A resource guide for integrating cultural heritage management into Communities work at Rio Tinto.
The guide is a practical “how to” covering all phases from exploration through to closure, enabling its operations to integrate cultural heritage management considerations more effectively into their work with communities.
Rio Tinto has developed the guide to share its experience, knowledge and practices to enable all operations to better protect the cultural heritage of the communities in which they operate.
The guide has been developed in conjunction with the University of Queensland’s Centre for Social Responsibility in Mining. It was informed by the advice and input from relevant Rio Tinto practitioners and specialists as well as external experts from various regions around the world.
To provide practical insights, it draws on case studies from across the Rio Tinto Group to demonstrate various good practice elements in cultural heritage management.
