UN Momentum for Change initiative endorses Anglo American project
ICMM member Anglo American featured as one of 10 innovative case studies combating climate change at the Momentum for Change launch on 6 December at the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) meeting in Durban, South Africa.
In 2007, the local government and Anglo American established the eMalahleni Water Reclamation Scheme to treat the water from its local operations and a nearby disused mine owend by another mining company in Mpumalanga, South Africa.
The project, a joint development between BHP Billiton and Anglo American Thermal Coal relieves water scarcity and has been replicated in other areas experiencing water shortage.
