ICMM releases report on fatigue management workshop

A summary report from ICMM’s successful workshop on fatigue management held on 11-12 August in Johannesburg, South Africa, is now available to download.

The two-day event, co-organized with the global oil and gas industry association for environmental and social issues (IPIECA) and the International Association of Oil and Gas Producers (OGP), examined practical systems to prevent fatigue related accidents.

It was attended by approximately 100 people from both the mining and oil and gas industries.

Participants concluded that the extractive industries are too reliant on technology to manage worker fatigue and should re-focus their efforts on individual behaviours. Leadership was identified as a key element to such efforts.

The group also agreed that fatigue management is a unique and complex issue that cannot be addressed with a one-size-fits-all approach.

Culture and maturity of individuals, sites, organizations and regions dictate the most appropriate implementation of fatigue management measures.

A thematic analysis and twelve presentations made at the workshop are also available to download.
