ICMM safety guidance now available in Spanish and Portuguese
ICMM is pleased to announce the release of its Leadership Matters: Managing fatal risk guidance in Spanish and Portuguese.
The document, first published in English in 2010, outlines practical steps to help mine managers and site leadership teams eliminate the risk of fatalities.
Its release marks the one-year anniversary of the rescue of 33 Chilean miners trapped underground for over two months after a tunnel collapsed at their operation.
Leadership matters presents a series of self-diagnostic prompts, built around an internationally recognized risk management framework, to help identify gaps in safety systems.
The tool is premised on the understanding that strong leadership is essential to establishing a culture of safety.
It should be read in conjunction with its twin title Leadership Matters: The elimination of fatalities, which is also available in Spanish and Portuguese.
Both reports provide checklist-based advice on three key themes:
• Live the vision of zero fatalities
• Focus on high potential events
• Recognize the fallibility of people and systems
