ICMM unveils new principles for climate change policy design

ICMM has published a set of Principles for climate change policy design – the latest step in ICMM’s approach to climate change.

This new program aims to ensure that ICMM member companies contribute to resolving the climate change challenge while securing the continued competitiveness of the mining and metals industry in a future low carbon economy.

It champions a principles-based approach to the design of public policy. This approach recognizes the shift to national and regional actions in addressing climate change with a view towards a stable global policy regime in the longer term.

ICMM is looking forward to engaging in the climate change policy area and is launching its plan of action in the coming months. It will be talking to a broad range of stakeholders, led by its new climate change team of John Drexhage, Director, and Simone Cooper, Senior Program Officer.

A high profile launch of the climate change program is planned for the next Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC in Durban, South Africa, in December of 2011.
