French version of Mine Closure Toolkit now available to download
ICMM is pleased to present a French version of the Planning for Integrated Mine Closure: A Toolkit.
The toolkit provides practical guidance on how to close a mine in a sustainable manner, which ultimately defines its long-term environmental and social impact.
In the past, closure planning has been the responsibility of operation management and focused on environmental aspects, but the Toolkit promotes community ownership of post closure goals.
It is structured according to the mine life cycle, starting out with conceptual closure planning and becoming iteratively more detailed.
Ideally, closure planning begins early in an operation’s life cycle, but the Toolkit also sets out processes and tools where this has not been possible. In these cases, more effort needs to be applied over a shorter span of time to allow the mine to develop its closure plan.
The Toolkit was originally published in English in 2008 and is also available in Spanish and Portuguese.
