Restoration of Legacy Sites Roundtable

The multi-stakeholder Roundtable on the Restoration of Legacy Sites, hosted by ICMM, IUCN- the World Conservation Union and the Post-Mining Alliance took place in Toronto, Canada on March 2nd and 3rd 2008.

Over 45 participants from civil society, government, industry, academia, and international organisations gathered to discuss the issues of mining legacy at abandoned and orphaned sites.  Based on a prior survey of interested parties, the Roundtable focused on positive debate on the key themes: funding & finance, regulation and legislation, partnership approaches and local community participation, and knowledge sharing.  Recognising the range of stakeholders involved in addressing legacy, the Roundtable recommends the continuation of dialogue towards action through an independent multi-stakeholder process.
