ICMM in mine closure talks in India
Chris Copley represented ICMM at the Asia-Pacific Partnership Coal Mining Taskforce meeting 'Mine Rehabilitation, Closure & Completion', held in Kolkata, India on 18 - 19 April 2008 and organized by the Australian and Indian governments.
Over 80 participants gathered to discuss issues around mine closure, including representatives of the APP member countries. The Chairman of Coal India, Mr Battacharyya, opened the meeting with a keynote speech.
Chris presented recent ICMM work on integrated mine closure planning, due to be published shortly. Other areas discussed includes community engagement, costing and financial assurance, and techniques for physical mine rehabilitation.
