ICMM releases July newsletter on sustainable development
ICMM is pleased to present the July issue of its Good Practice newsletter: Supporting positive change.
This edition is themed around sustainable development and marks the recent meeting of the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development (UNCSD) in New York, where ICMM was able to play a key role.
It includes a special report on various initiatives that member companies are developing in support of sustainable development, such as recycling, public infrastructure, community relations and nature conservation.
There are also two analytical pieces on how mining can contribute to sustainability. In the first, ICMM president Anthony Hodge argues for adopting a partnership approach and in the other Dr John Atherton makes the case for proactive metals stewardship.
Anthony Hodge said: “Mining and metals have a positive role to play in the SD challenge, currently focused on the transition to a low-carbon economy linked to energy security, environmental stewardship, global economic growth, poverty reduction and improved living standards."
