Business summary
MMG was formed in 2009 with a portfolio of world-class diversified mining operations, development projects and exploration fields. The company is Australia’s largest open pit zinc mine as well as a substantial producer of copper, lead, gold and silver. Its mining operations are located in Australia and Asia and include:
- The Century mine in Queensland which is one of the worlds largest producers of zinc – producing some 500,000 tonnes of zinc annually.
- The Sepon copper and gold operation in Laos which produce approximately 65,000 tonnes of copper and 90,000 ounces of gold annually.
- The Golden Grove underground base and precious metals mine in Western Australia which produces concentrates of zinc, copper and other base and precious metals.
- The Rosebery mine in Tasmania, a polymetallic underground mine, in operation since 1936, which has current potential to extend life beyond 2030.
- The Avebury nickel mine in Tasmania (currently on care and maintenance).
Projects currently under review for development include the Dugald River zinc deposit located in Queensland, Australia where feasibility studies have confirmed the potential development of a 200,000 tonne per annum zinc mine. MMG also has a number of projects in the Nunavut Territories in Canada, of which its principal asset is the Izok Lake copper, zinc, lead and silver resources which was recently the subject of a pre-feasibility study.
MMG also has a portfolio of exploration projects, either wholly-owned or as joint ventures, in North America, Thailand, China, Indonesia, Tunisia and Australia.

MMG joined the ICMM in October 2009. Being a member of the ICMM is a mark of a company’s commitment to achieving strong sustainable development results and is an indication to all its stakeholders that it is striving to be a partner of choice in the development of resources.
