WORK PROGRAMS
Communications
An important element of ICMM’s work is enhancing external recognition, building internal awareness and alignment, and supporting collaboration through consistent and effective two-way communication. It is essential to have an active listening role in order to capture and share ICMM’s collective knowledge and learning on current activities and emerging issues.
As part of our objective to disseminate knowledge and learning, ICMM produces a number of publications each year. While the Secretariat sits in London, and English is the most widely used common language, we ensure international reach by making our materials available in several languages. To date we have published material in seven languages: English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Chinese, Japanese and Russian. In 2009, for example, we facilitated the translation of the Good Practice Guidance for Mining and Biodiversity into Chinese, and launched Spanish andPortuguese versions of the Mine Closure Toolkit.
Our published output includes corporate products such as the Annual Review and the bi-annual Good Practice newsletter, as well as the toolkits and good practice guidance reports from project-specific areas of the ICMM work program.
Other channels we use to disseminate our work and to get input from members and stakeholders alike include: electronic mail, the ICMM website where you are now, writing opinion pieces for industry, corporate governance and main-stream media, and participation at key international fora.
