Resource Endowment Toolkit presented at West African Mining Forum
Dr Chris Anderson from Newmont Mining Corporation made a presentation on the ICMM Resource Endowment Toolkit at the West African Regional Mining Forum held in Conakry, Guinea on 11 February 2008.
The meeting provided a forum for countries to share ideas on how best to manage mining revenues and improve agreements with foreign firms interested in mining in the West African region.
Around 100 people attended including representatives from Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Niger, Mauritania, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Mali and Senegal, the World Bank, Africa Development Bank, Economic Community of West African States, and the French Development Agency commissioners.
The toolkit was received as a comprehensive set of possible solutions to many of the problems raised during the conference including governance, revenue mechanisms, transparency and capacity building.
