ICMM's Paul Mitchell addresses investors at London seminar
There was a lively and productive exchange between investors and mining industry representatives at a seminar in London on Tuesday 11 December hosted by Insight Investment. There were over 40 delegates including mining analysts and service providers from the investment community.
The event was co-hosted by the UK Social Investment Forum (UKSIF) and ICMM, and was chaired by UKSIF's Penny Shepherd.
ICMM President Paul Mitchell gave a presentation on Value creation and sustainable development, and Rory Sullivan of Insight Investment gave an investor's view of the mining and metals industry. The two speakers were joined by Edward Bickham (Anglo American) and Claire Divver (Xstrata) for a panel discussion following the main presentations.
Questions and comments touched on issues of the responsibility of the industry for biodiversity around mining sites, safety, and engagement with local stakeholders in mining operations.
ICMM President Paul Mitchell said, "In the context of a mining industry where market capitalization has grown three-fold in three years, the session was extremely valuable. It was important for mining companies and investors to share views on the value creation process."
