Good Practice Guidance on Mining and Biodiversity presented in India

ICMM's Program Director for Environment, Health and Safety, Chris Copley, presented an overview of the Good Practice Guidance on Mining and Biodiversity at the first 'Managing the Social and Environmental Consequences of Coal Mining in India' conference held in New Delhi, India from 19 - 21 November.

Around 300 participants from government, industry and civil society spent three days considering social and environmental issues, and sector responses, at the event which was jointly organised by the Indian School of Mines, Australia National University and the University of Queensland.

The conference culminated with the 'New Delhi Declaration', which recognizes the role of coal in India while calling for better integration of social and environmental issues and international collaboration.
