Keynote presentation on Resource Endowment initiative in Peru
Dr. John Groom, Chair of ICMM’s Resource Endowment initiative and Head of Safety, Health and Environment for Anglo American, gave the key note presentation at the XXVIII Convención Minera, Arequipa, Peru, on 11 September.
The speech was very well received and widely reported in the local media. Subsequent meetings with senior government officials reaffirmed their commitment to the Resource Endowment initiative and to the pilot project in Peru.
The President of SNMPE, Ysaac Cruz agreed to provide support from the leadership of the SNMPE to the Resource Endowment process by including the initiative in the Society's upcoming work program in the minerals sector.
The pilot is being actively supported by ICMM members with operations in Peru: Anglo American, Barrick, CVRD, Newmont, Rio Tinto, Xstrata, as well as by Antamina and the Southern Peru Copper Company.
