Guidance manual for environmentally sound management of waste agreed
ICMM's John Atherton participated in the tenth meeting of the OECD Working Group on Waste Prevention and Recycling, which was held in Paris on 25-27 April.
During the meeting delegates agreed to the text of a guidance manual for environmentally sound management of waste but a substantive part of the agenda was devoted to further discussion on the development of a Sustainable Materials Management (SMM) policy.
Delegates also reviewed the status of development of an inventory of SMM-related activities within international organizations which include several ICMM initiatives.
ICMM has been invited to join the SMM steering group to assist in the development of the OECD policy. This new initiative is aimed at developing a more integrated, life cycle approach to waste prevention and management.
