ICMM supports launch of the global framework to fight climate change
ICMM has given its support to the global framework to fight climate change which was launched by Professor Jeffrey Sachs in New York today.
ICMM President Paul Mitchell said, “Our members are generally supportive of the executive summary of the global framework as a positive approach to addressing the urgent challenge of climate change.”
ICMM and its members are committed to tackling climate change. They have already made an important statement in May 2006 outlining the actions of ICMM company members.
Improving energy efficiency and participating in ground-breaking research on carbon capture and sequestration and clean coal technologies, amongst a host of other activities, have been recognized as key actions for the mining and metals industry.
ICMM is a committed participant in the Global Roundtable on Climate Change. It is an excellent forum for discussing responses to climate change with other companies and with leading academics.
Paul Mitchell said, “We look forward to continuing our involvement in the Global Roundtable and to working with other participants to improve performance in addressing climate change.”
