ICMM makes second submission to UN Special Representative
In October 2006 ICMM made its second submission to Professor John Ruggie, the Secretary General's Special Representative for Business and Human Rights. The submission provides information on recent steps taken by ICMM member companies, on continuing issues for our industry, and sets out some high-level recommendations for the Special Representative of the UN Secretary General (SRSG).
ICMM is keen to ensure that the work of the SRSG on human rights and business creates greater consensus and clarity in this area, and leads to positive outcomes on the ground.
ICMM's intention is to interact with the UN Special Representative to help ensure that his recommendations are fair, balanced, realistic and fully consistent with the ICMM Principles.
In its first submission in March 2006, ICMM set out the broad context of the mining industry’s work on human rights, outlining both successes and challenges in this area.
