Community Development Toolkit presented at BSR conference in San Francisco

ICMM Program Director Aidan Davy presented “Community Development Program Design and Implementation: What makes Programs Successful?” in a pre-conference workshop on Strategic Community Development for extractives companies at the Business for Social Responsibility (BSR) Annual Conference in San Francisco on 23 October.

The presentation showcased those aspects of ICMM’s Community Development Toolkit that deal with the design and implementation of community development programs. Illustrative examples of good practice by member companies included projects developed by Anglo American, Newmont, Rio Tinto and Xstrata.

At the same workshop, Jon Samuel (Anglo American) Jorge Poblete (Anglo American Foundation, Chile) and Ximena Abogabir (Casa de la Paz, Chile) presented on Anglo American’s Socio-economic Assessment Toolbox (SEAT), and its collaborative application by Anglo and the Chilean NGO Casa de la Paz within Anglo’s Chilean operations. One of the interesting aspects of this work was the lessons learned by both company and NGO.

The contributions by ICMM and Anglo American/Casade la Paz formed the backbone of the workshop, and were very well received.
