ICMM presents Chinese version of Minerals and Metals Management 2020
In the context of its first major workshop in China, ICMM launched a Chinese version of ‘Minerals and Metals Management 2020’ (MMM 2020). The action plan confirms ICMM’s commitment to the goals of the World Summit on Sustainable Development and supports the overall objective of the UN’s Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM).
Co-facilitated by the China offices of the commodity associations for Nickel, Copper, and Zinc, the workshop brought together Chinese government representatives - including those directly responsible for China’s domestic regulation and international policy development - with industry and related service sector individuals to discuss the global challenge of chemicals management.
In addition, ICMM offered metals specific guidance and training on implementation of the new EU regulation on registration, evaluation and authorisation of chemicals (REACH) and of the UN Globally Harmonised System of Classification and Labelling.
Finally, ICMM’s Metals Environmental Risk Assessment Guidance (MERAG) and Health Risk Assessment Guidance for Metals (HERAG) programs were introduced as the basis for developing successful technical policy approaches throughout the life cycle of minerals and metals.
The meeting program along with presentations (in both English and Chinese) can be downloaded from http://www.icmm.com/chemicalsworkshop.
