WHO WE WORK WITH

World Bank/IFC

Aboriginal Art - Bondini Aboriginal Reserve (WestThe World Bank Group, and its private sector arm, the International Finance Corporation (IFC) is a valued partner to ICMM across a range of issues.

The World Bank is a vital source of financial and technical assistance in developing countries, many of which are rich in mineral resources.

The Bank has actively contributed to the Resource Endowment initiative since its inception in 2004. They have also partnered ICMM in publishing its Community Development Toolkit.

Health and Safety Guidelines

In February 2006, the IFC adopted new environmental and social standards and disclosure policy. Eight high-level Performance Standards set out the responsibilities of IFC clients, each one underpinned by a Guidance Note containing advice on meeting the criteria. If adopted, banks which adhere to the Equator Principles of environmental and social management, will ask their clients to implement these Performance Standards.

ICMM has participated actively in the review of the IFC’s safeguard policies and guidelines since 2004. Our comments have been welcomed by the IFC. Each guideline was reviewed by ICMM members and ICMM submitted the collective view of its members to the IFC during the public comment period.

Participants were invited to comment on the IFC draft Policy and Performance Standards, and the draft Guidance notes as they were developed. ICMM comments were made through the web based consultation between April and September 2005. ICMM also submitted two consolidated response letters to Rachel Kyte.
