Impact Assessment, Biodiversity and Extractive Industries Workshop
ICMM and the International Petroleum Industry Environmental Conservation Association (IPIECA) present the report of the jointly organized workshop "Impact Assessment, Biodiversity and Extractive Industries Workshop" held in Beijing, China, on 24-26 March 2009.
During the two-day workshop environmental managers, government authorities, NGOs and academia got together to discuss biodiversity challenges and the use of impact assessments to improve environmental performance.
Five main themes regarding the consideration of biodiversity in impact assessment by the extractive industries emerged from this cross sector collaboration:
- The global plight of biodiversity and associated challenges.
- Principal trends in international practice.
- The changing context of impact assessment in China.
- The main challenges facing China in dealing effectively with biodiversity in impact assessment.
- Opportunities for improving practice in China.
In addition, ICMM's Christine Copley present the Mandarin version of the Good Practice Guidance on Mining and Biodiversity.
