ICMM convenes workshop on artisanal mining in Brazil
Claire White attended the 8th annual Communities and Small-scale Mining (CASM) conference in Brasilia from 6 to 10 October, on the theme of "Digging to Deliver Development".
ICMM and Wardell Armstrong, a mining industry consultancy, convened a workshop on managing the interface between large scale mining and artisanal/small scale mining.
The workshop was well attended and focussed on defining the role and responsibility of government in establishing and maintaining co-existence, company policy and realistic options for intervention and understanding the role of civil society and non-governmental organizations.
