Mining and communities

ICMM acknowledges that mining has an impact on communities. That impact can be positive – catalysing social and economic development, transforming people’s lives for the better– but risks being negative should a company act insensitively. Responsible mining companies recognise that they need to proactively engage with communities to build strong relationships based on trust and respect. They seek to minimise negative impacts and maximise benefits, building long-term mutually beneficial relationships.
